ICOM IC-910X
During the first weekend of this month I took a trip to Cambridge to visit M1BXF but also pickup a second hand fully loaded ICOM IC-910X which I’m now using for satellite work and also general VHF/UHF QSOs, so far the experience with it has been fantastic and yesterday had my first SSB satellite QSO with F0FIG.
During the trip, I also took part in the 144/432MHz Contest with the Cam-Hams you can read more about the event on the blog post on the website http://www.camb-hams.com/2011/03/07/march-144432mhz-contest
I hope you like the Icom better than I liked my 910H which is currently for sale.
Hi Julian,
What didn’t you like about the H version?

The receiver sounded noisy and receive audio sounded a bit rough, kind of like the local oscillator had a lot of phase noise or something, compared to the clean audio I was used to on HF from my K3. Now I have the internal 144MHz transverter module in the K3 and it does sound much better. The sensitivity was OK, so there was nothing really wrong with the receiver, I just didn’t like listening to it.
Can’t say I’ve noticed the noisy RX on this one and audio sounds ok but might be me after suffering from bad hearing loss everything sounds a bit flat!
I did think about the transverter route used M1BXFs Flex-radio with 144mhz unit and was very impressed, but for satellite work not very practical in my view, I’ll keep playing and maybe post a review in a few weeks.
